In the first section of Roald Dahl's, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the reader is introduced to the main characters. The main character is a little boy named Charlie Bucket. He lives in a very small house on the edge of a great town with his father and mother, his father's parents, Grandpa Joe and Grandma Josephine, and his mother's parents, Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina. Charlie's four grandparents sleep together in one big bed, while Charlie and his parents sleep on mattresses on the floor of their house. The family has bread and margarine for breakfast, boiled potatoes and cabbage for lunch, and cabbage soup for dinner because that is all that they can afford to eat. Charlie loves chocolate, especially from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Charlie's problem is that Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory is within sight from his house, but Charlie's family can only afford to buy him one bar of chocolate each year, which he receives as a gift for his birthday. Charlie's solution to this problem is to eat the chocolate very slowly, one nibble at a time. This way, the bar of chocolate will last almost one whole month after his birthday.
